Great ideas for the characters. Now if we get Needer, John, and Kaitlynn to post.

Derek, is this enough for you? Also, what is the starting level? We ended at level 4, but it is up to you to pick where we go.

I don't mind making revisions to this:

My character came from a family of minor nobility. He was with them until age 5 1/2 when his dad finally convinced his mother to send him away. He only had to look at himself and then his fully human dad to know that it wasn't his real father.

He was sent to a boarding school (I don't know if this campaign actually has them or not, maybe just an orphanage) where he was an outcast among outcasts. He was transported from one facility to another until he learned to disguise himself and bluff well enough to just be considered a quiet blind kid (his eyes are pure white orbs, consistent with some other tieflings.)

Seeing no future there, he left the orphanages at the age of 13 to try and make something of himself. He ended up being the clean-up boy at a wizard's university (I'm pretty sure there was one in a previous city we visited) so that he could feed himself. He did his best to teach himself from what he saw and what he was ordered to clean up. He wasn't very successful.

Two years later he watched a man try to join the university and was denied and sent away for harnessing dangerous magic. Intrigued and desperate to learn, Corrick tracked the man down and became his apprentice. For the next three years they traveled together under the stars and Corrick absorbed all the knowledge he could from the man. Then the arena happened.....

Yeah changes are do-able haha

Something we need to work on, and something Derek has no real control over: how we refer to our characters. We should try get into more of a habit of using character names or nick names while in character. It is awkward to be speaking to an NPC merchant and say, "oh yes my friend would love this sword."'
"Well who is he?"
"Uh... the dwarf fighter... with an axe....and some armor...and... damn."

Yeah.. we need to work on the character names.

wow, sorry for not checking in for a while.

I like the point buy system as well. It gets my vote :)

As for my character's story...

Sapheres was born to an evil warlord. Her mother was a trophy from one of his 'adventures' of terrorizing a random town. He was angry that he did not have a son as he viewed women as weak. Sapheres, young and just wanting affection, tried to train on her own to please him. Her father saw potential and started to train her.

Sapheres mother was terrified that she would end up as evil as her father so after much plotting and waiting, was able to poison and kill the evil warlord. Sapheres mother was captured and tried for murder. Sapheres landed in an orphanage type place and was tried to taught goodness. She continued to train as a warlord as best she could until joining the military.

Her mixed background and emotions confused her which is why she is unaligned. She tries to be tough and seem strong but has a weak spot for kids thanks to her own troubled past. Her military training has taught Sapheres that a strong unit is better then any individual but is rather hesitant to seek help outside of it because she finds it hard to trust those she doesn't know personally.

This can be changed easily and all.

Great, we got the roles balanced out. 1 Defender, 2 Leaders, 2 Strikers, and 1 Controller. So, Derek.... do we get to find out what we're doing? Or just find out in the fall?

I don't know if you got the books yet, but a great way to send the huge files that will hold the Monster Manual, PHB, and DM Guide is via Megaupload.com. The site allows you to make a free account, upload the info and email it who ever. I just used this to send one of my pdf books to a friend (not 4e book).

Also Derek I know that you don't want to spend the money-which if you Dm with a laptop it is okay, but I suggest at least buying the PHB since it has most of the combat rules in the back. I can lend you my books for the sessions if you want to use the hard copies then.

Also I have the Monster Manual 2 and Dungeon Delve if you would like to use those during the fall.

Thanks for character info everyone, it's helpful for all of us to be acquainted with one another.

A few posts back, Erik was talking about the importance of character names, and I second that idea. It adds a lot of depth to the world if we all know who the characters are, and acknolwedge them as characters, and not just the avatars of our friends.

Regarding the starting level, I'm thinking we'll stay at four. If you're creating a new character you can go ahead and get the same number of magic items as we all started with, and pick your mundane gear as befits your characters background. By level four you've acquired a decent amount of stuff, don't worry about a GP limit or anything, just check in with me for anything extravagant. Rule of thumb: horse= yes.....small home= yes.....harem=no.....Spanish galleon=no.

And we'll go with the point-buy system. So there ya go.

I guess the last little bit of information I have for you is that I want you to be prepared to roleplay with your old characters for just the introduction of the upcoming year. You won't need the old character sheets and it won't last long, but the plan is to make the transition make...a little sense. Doesn't have to be a whole lot. But we'll try.

Hokey Dokey, so the way I see it, the beginning of this campaign could be kind of rocky.I'm trying to fit all the character backstories into one unified mess, and I have a few ideas.

I don't like leading by the nose, but I want to the party to have a reason to be together. So. Here we go.

The current mission is to go visit the dwarven kingdom with a treaty and such, and the new characters will be brought into aid with the endeavor. Saphere and Becky's character will be members of the military, either from the army we've been working with, or from the surrounding towns' militias, or just mercenaries (you go ahead and make the choice, just let me know). The original characters will still be lackeys. Erik will be the guide to the Dwarven kingdom.

Hudson, your background was the most open of them all, so I'll let you decide where you want to be. If you think your character would be a mercenary, go ahead, if you think he'd make sense as a friend of the elf ranger, go ahead and be one of the guides. Just let me know.

That's that, the whole point is that the original party bungled up so much, that the king doesn't trust them to do much of anything at all, it'll be disbanded and a new group, peppered with people proven to be competent, will be formed. Go ahead and modify this if this your uncomfortable with it, and let me know what you want.

I love this campaign. I need to go read over hudson's idea again (it is here right?) to see if I need to tweak my background to make them work better.

Merc would work. I could see the group as being a good way to get jobs and that would be the reason I would be there.

The merc thing is great. We now have people who are working off their slavery, loyal members of the military, a guide/specialist for the assigned task, and a mercenary out for glory(?) and profit (via treasure, money, fame, other such hogwash). If we do this right we could have several party rifts that allow slight arguments and RP to develop in a great manner. If we do it wrong we have a party civil war between loyalists, slaves and mercs.

Derek, is my guy going to be a mercenary or a person loyal to the army? Would it be better if I was raised there or if I was simply given advanced training in field survival there? Just trying to help make my background mesh with yours.

I really look foward to playing with this group. And I can't wait to argue with a dragonborn pally about how stupid the gods are. I just hope that adamantine sword isn't aimed at me.

BTW: Hudson I love your sig!

Erik, you're character could easily be a mercenary if you wanted him to be. For some reason I kind of assumed he would be like a "woodsmen for hire" type deal, it would be a natural side profession. But if you'd rather be a member of the military, go for it, I don't care as long as it fits your role as a guide at the beginning of everything.
