Well, since a few of us are here, and I hope to get most everyone on this forum I'll start posting about the game.

On Monday got back to the city we needed to and dealt with the crazy dude with the stone. The character Shell died, pixie looted him before the guard even got there. But we handed the crazy guy with the stone over to Venter and got 1000 gp each.

We then decided to postpone returning to Aundair and set off for Sharn. In order to save months of travel we took the Lightning Rail- and sold our horses for this. We also sold Yoshi and used the 2000 gp from that to pay for all of the PCs and the two hirelings getting to Sharn in 3 days.

The plan is to sell the stuff we have collected for high or black market prices and then go about getting a ship. We will probably go back to Aundair sometime.

Combat issues that are group faces:
    Lightly armored people
    Many players slow down combat
My sorcerer spells stop a lot of room for combat
Complete inability to deal with enemy spell casters aside from killing

We need to discuss ways to compensate/fix this.

An update for those who couldn't attend Friday's session:

We went to Sharn on the train, which took about 3 days. During that time. the bard made a fair amount of coin performing for people with the aid of the pixie, druid, and halfling. The artificer also keened the pixie's rapier and short sword (yep, thats right. The rapier crits on a 15 now).

Once we got to Sharn, we sold all of the stolen stuff from the rich guy and asked around for the druid's uncle. We went to his office, only to have the secretary be a total jerk and call us poor. Once we finally got around her to meet the druid's uncle, he gave us a job to escort a cargo ship the next day. Also while we were there, the druid got a local armory place to make his bear some good weapons and armor, which should be finished shortly.

Fun fact: Did you know the bard can lie really well? With his spell, he can make fantastic bluff checks (almost in the epic range). For those of you who weren't there, you really missed out on the look on Ben's face when the bard told him to beat a 45 on sense motive.

To reduce the size of the group, we either have to give people the old heave ho or get more people to dm their own game. If your spell's area is really giving you problems take a lvl in archmage or there is a feat in CA.

We had no meeting this Monday, Ben was too busy with school to have time to plan what we are going to be doing.

The archmaghe thing is a maybe, and next level I am taking the Sculpt Spell metamagic feat.

Who would you have leave? I know that shrinking the group probably the best solution we have, but who do we ask to leave?

I'm not sure about taking that other level in archmage. I mean, we have another spell caster joining the group. He can make up for whatever spells the halfling lacks.

Not really, we have no way to deal with other spellcasters.

Here is my judgment on the custom soulknife class
1. Change mettle to evasion
2. NO perfect mind (I'm not letting anyone get touch attacks like that as a class ability, there is a feat for it)
3. fort save is 6 at max (you guys messed up the poor save progression)
4. bonus feats are fine, they will act the same as the psychic warrior
5. the mind blade weapon bonus and enchantment will stay with as standard.
6. no sleep, memory, or wounding lose enchantments.
7. I have no idea what the exploding enchantment is, so that is out until someone explains
8. multiple throw is out, you have mind arrow so the former ability is redundant.
9.skill points will stay 4 + int
10. gauntlet is replaced with dagger for shape mind weapon.

Some of this is up for debate but I will revise this whenever I want and however I see fit. Unless you guys can show me an official print of perfect mind and mettle those are out of the question. perfect mind is ridiculous and no one gets to ignore partial effects on all saves. Closest to that is evasion and that only works for reflex saves.

So far I have received character histories for Brocken, Maien, Wyrda and Nasim. Everyone but Brocken I want you guys to take another crack at them. Here are some things I want you guys to revise.
Maien-
All fey are born in the Twilight Demesne. Who is this friend that taught her to fight and what is this accident. If its the hurricane how do you know he is in Sharn if you went to the Eldeen Reaches right after? Also as a point of clarification, Sharn might turn an eye to crime for a few coins but the navy of Breland will not. Why did she abandon her baby and what is the fathers name? What was her relationship with him, was it romantic or just sexual. Also want some info about the the father as well. Why was the pirate crew in Breland instead of the Principalities? Her history is contradictory, you said her friend taught her to fight then said that lover and his crew taught her, if both are true what is the friend's and the pirate crew's relationship. In all honesty the history seems to lacks consistency and has little emotion to it. When I ask for the 5 people, i meant people who Maien considers important to her and something more than just vague description such as "friend".

Wyrda and Nasim both need to give me more description of their 5 people. For Wyrda, I at least have a name, race, and even preferred weapon.
In Wyrda's history there was a person named Jacques who was his mentor. What happened to him? Also why did he leave the Aundairian army?
In Nasim's history its mentioned that he currently in the business of the hired killer. Killing for money is an irredeemable evil act, change this or change your alignment. I want to know what is the Monastery of Mersah and why was he there. How did he "distinguish" while working for house Orien and why does he hate the shadow network and the blade mark build?
The greatest weakness of all these character histories is the "Important People". These are persons who have had a great impact their lives and are special to their lives, whether they are hated enemies or close friends it doesn't matter. When you guys re due your character histories think about people who've had an impact on your own lives and use that as a guide line.

Here is a link to a pretty good, and still balanced Soul Knife.

http://forums.gleemax.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-310984

History Info:
Wryda hates Denthor. Denthor is an arrogant wizard who looks down upon people who do not spend countless hours studying how to cast spells, or at least countless hours studying their profession. Wyrda thinks he lacks creativity and was a terrible leader because his plan B was Plan A only with more men. Wyrda prefers to do everything he can to protect his men, Denthor cared only for the victory. When Wyrda reached a higher rank than Denthor, the wizard swore that he would never serve Wryda. The halflings response was to go ahead and join Karrnath since they could easily deal with Denthor's lack of concern for people's lives.

Nealton was never close to Wyrda, he was mostly just useful. Nealton was all about survival. He would never take a risk or do anything off the book. Wyrda did make extensive use of him during his campaigns, but he never liked to. Nealton's greatest strength and weakness is that he will only do things by the book, and only take the safest action.

Ruyth is great in Wyrda's eyes. He is not cruel, and is often very creative with his styles of attack and thoughts. Although he is a little vain, everyone enjoys looking good. Ruyth was often assigned to guard Wyrda and give him the protection that he needed during great battles in the war. Wyrda has no idea where Ruyth's whereabouts are since he was transfered to another unit.

Jacques was never part of the army. He was an old Shifter who taught Wryda how to learn about arcane knowledge and how to identify spells. He was stern and generally unfeeling, but he did something great for Wyrda. He taught him how to make the most of his limited skills. Jacques travels the continent, and is usually in the guise of a beggar. He thinks it is fun. He can otherwise be found at a tavern for a good tale, or a library for a good book.

Wyrda left the army when the war ended. He then met up with Sov and "Gimble" to make a living. Brocken was part of Wyrda's Platoon and so he knew him, the bard they met one day and took a liking to someone who could quickly make some money without having to maim and sell things.

PostPosted: Sun Feb 22, 2009 1:31 am    Post subject: Maien's History Reply with quote

Her parents were born Twilight Demesne, but before they had Maien they moved. They moved because they hated the central ruling power. They wanted to move to a place with more freedom and less power struggles that was still civilized, hence Lhazaar Principalities.

The friend who taught her how to fight was one of the crew mates who was friends with her baby's father. His name was Cairon. While I don't have the final copy of her history with me (a certain someone didn't save it *cough* Erik *cough*), I believe the accident might be the baby. I'm not sure though.

She knows that Cairon was in Sharn because that was the last place they were at before they set off on the voyage with the hurricane. He was unable to attend because he was forced to retire after losing his remaining eye in a fight on the previous voyage.

Just because the navy of Breland won't turn a blind eye to crime does not mean that they can catch the criminals. These pirates aren't just your average joes who felt like grabbing a ship one day.

She abandoned her baby because A) a pirate ship is no place to care for an infant B) She couldn't leave the pirate life because she had no other form of work to feed her child and C) she never wanted a baby in the first place. Her baby's father's name was unknown to most, but the rest of the crew referred to him as Garth. As for her relationship with him, she loved him very much.

The pirate crew was in Breland because they are pirates. They know full well that they can buy and sell anything in Sharn, and so it was a popular place for them. They travelled around as spontaniously as possible to avoid the authorities, but inevitably they will always return to Sharn.

No, her history is not contradictory. More than one person can contribute to teaching someone to fight! Especially when they are on a pirate ship where everyone is usually busy, it ended up being Cairon and Garth who taught her to fight depending on who was available. At first the rest of the crew (besides Cairon and Garth) did not appriciate her presence, but after finding how that she had some pretty creative and devious ideas for their exploits, they warmed up very quickly.

Yes, it does have very little emotion to it. When I wrote it out on paper, I was just writing ideas here and there without any emotion to organize my thoughts. When I gave it to Erik, I thought he would put it into sentance form but he didn't. If it were cleaned up it would sound much better.

As far as her 5 most important people are concerned: thats all you're going to get. There is a reason why Maien is neutral: she has never felt any real positive connection to anyone but Garth, Cairon, and her baby (although not as strongly). She feels no reason to go out of her way for the vast majority of people because she isn't close to very many people.

Yersterday night we fought some rogues that attacked the caravan we were guarding. There were eight, we killed a few, one I put to sleep and then one of the attackers killed him, and a few fled from stinking clouds and energy draining.

We meet again on the monday we return from break.

First thing we do when this job is over : buy Monk and Artificer better ranged stuff. Artificer might need to make wand-of-blow-the-hell-outta-stuff

We should also shore up some of our groups general weaknesses. Such as Reflex saves, armor class, damage output, and hunting down magic weapons.

We should also consider getting a potion of healing or two so that the Pixie can use them if she gets hurt and still stay invisible. Our current methods of healing involve running to the bard and now removing two people from combat for a round.

Druid will have epic armor soon, artificer has good armor, but we should get the Bard into Mithral breastplate. That will give him +5 AC instead of +4, Max of +5 Dex, and -1 instead of -0 to some checks. If we can get this enchanted it will be even better than the mithral that he currently has.
